How I made it :
After cutting the brick of butter in half, I tore off some of the wrapping to butter the baking pan. The recipe I was following stated a 9-inch baking pan but I only have an 8-inch one. Who cares as long as it got baked, right?
Due to not having enough bowls, I put aside the flour, baking powder and salt. I figured I can sift them straight into the mixing bowl since I had to add them later anyway.
Then I attempted to melt the butter and brown sugar in a pot. It became a weird brown gooey mixture that just looked as though the sugar was just floating in the melted butter. My mum assured me that it was alright, as the sugar had 'caramelised'. <--Huh?
To cool the mixture quickly, I had it transferred to a metal bowl and put in water. While it cooled, I suddenly remembered that the coffee hadn't gone in yet! So I dumped the coffee in and stirred. Even if it didn't melt into the mixture, heat from baking will do the trick, I figured.
Next the vanilla and eggs went in, and I sifted the flour, baking powder and salt straight into the mixing bowl. Chocolate and walnuts went in next and then I had a mixture that looked more like cookie dough than brownie batter.
Cookies are great too, I guess.
DOH! I forgot to preheat the oven! While waiting, I stir the mixture in hopes that it'll create some miracle and not be so 'cookie-dough-ish'.
Beep! Oven done preheating... I slide the pan in... and promptly went to watch cartoons.
Here's how the brownies turned out :
It looks and smells great! (surprisingly) Mum and her deft cutting makes light work of the slab of brownie, turning them into uniform little bite size squares.
Only Mum, Dad and I know that those brownies were made by me. I woke early to make the brownies, and in case it failed, there would be no witnesses, but as luck would have it, Mum and Dad are early risers. (-_-!)
So the brownies were left to cool on the table while I went back to finish sleeping. When I woke up, about half were already eaten! Quickly, I whipped my phone and took pictures of my creation before it was completely gone.
While my sister was chewing on a brownie, I asked how it tasted. Her eyes widened in shock as she realised that I'd made it. She thought it was store-bought!
TAKE THAT, YOU PROFESSIONAL BAKERS!
